I apologize for the lack of update information tonight.  We are both so tired.  More information tomorrow.  Tonight is another night I will cry myself to sleep. The case manager has begun the process to move Hillary out of Vanderbilt and on to a “long term care facility”… a nursing home and it is what I feared the most:  Bordeaux in Nashville.  I know it well and my heart is broken.  It is not a place I ever thought I would have to see my 26 year old daughter reside. How could she have let her self be without insurance?  And that is exactly what the case manager told me about her move today.  “She has no insurance so this is the only place that will take a KY resident without insurance.”  I am so angry with Hillary tonight that she allowed herself to be in this situation with no insurance. But I am also broken hearted for her in every inch of my soul.  My baby girl needs to wake up all the way.  Please pray for Hillary to wake up and to be restored to health….tonight…tomorrow—any time you possibly can say a prayer.

Our family will miss seeing our special little guy this weekend.  We had thought he might return to Nashville this weekend, but perhaps it is best he not be here.  We have lots to do to wake his mommy up the rest of the way.

Thank your for every prayer for Hillary…..and her sweet son.

    XOXOXO

    –Shawn

  • Shawn,

I wish I were there to hug you right now. I would lay by side like we do in your “cave” and stroke your hair like your mom would. This is a sad moment of realization BUT you are strong and so is Hillary. Cry for now because you deserve to and you need to. It will make you feel better and only make you stronger for the work that is ahead. The Coltharps are unbeatable! Nothing is bigger than your LOVE.

  • Shawn,

I don’t know Hillary personally, although since her accident, I check her progress daily.  She, along with the entire Coltharp family remains in my prayers.  I heard a song today, and I thought it suited Hillary’s situation to a tee.  The song is called “I Dare You To Move” by Switchfoot.  The lyrics could be speaking to Hillary they are so true to her condition.  You are an inspiration to us mothers everywhere Shawn.  Thank you for that!

  • Shawn,

You are an amazing woman! I know this and we’ve only met once. You are strong and from what I hear so is Hillary. Stick in there and know that God in control of this situation.

On a good note we are raising some good money to help Hillary. We had a Spaghetti Lunch this week and we have raised over $2400 so far.

I’ll keep you in my prayers.

  • Shawn-

This is Sheryl Huff (now Davis) from PTHS days.  Mark Newman gave me this website and a brief update on sweet Hillary.  I wanted you to know we live in Brentwood and would love to help in any way we can. We have a great faith family at Brentwood United Methodist who would love to add Hillary and your family to the prayer list but alsoknow that you are welcome here at the house if you need a place to get away and see a friendly face!  My email is huffdavis@comcast.net and we can connect through that.  I can send you the house phone and my cell via that email if you need it.

    Keep the faith!

    Sheryl

  • What a shame you must place her so far from home.  Should she not receive specialized care for head-injury patients and are there not such places closer to where you live, or at least facillities with comparable care so others who are close to Hillary can visit as well?  The more friends and familiar voices the more it seems it would help.

  • Shawn, my heart breaks for you, Paul and family, knowing the pain and sadness you are suffering.  Stay strong but do allow yourself to greive as needed….crying is cleansing for the soul.  We are all praying and want to help however we can.  Love you, Jane

  • Shawn,
Hey, this is Paul Hadfield from Paducah Tilghman High School.  I went to school with Ashley and Hillary and taught Alex.  Just wanted you to know that I am praying for Hillary and your family.  Keep your hopes up.

  • Hi Shawn I have been following Hillary’s progress after being sent to the site by a friend. I know how hard this is for you all because my son’s 17 year old friend was in a serious accident two weeks ago & has a traumatic brain injury. It has been really tough on his (our) family, friends and my son.

We are praying for Hillary daily & ask that you might do the same for Garrison.

Remember no matter how tough things get or how discouraging they may  look that our God is bigger than any circumstance. Hillary’s progress thus far is a true testament to that.

If you need someone to talk to just email me at angela6067@msn.com.

    God Bless,

    Angela

  • Shawn and family – I keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I too started a blog for my sister in law who is battling cancer – you are right it starts out as one thing and ends up allowing you to pour out your feelings and frustrations. I am glad you got the chance to be with your mom – where else can you be 12 years old again and have everything taken care of by your mom!.

I hope Jessie shared with you about the progress Bill Cownie’s daughter has been making – truly a miracle. She too had a car accident and was in a nursing facility. We all pray for miracles for Hillary too.

Next is a quote from our CWF material:

When we rest in God’s infinite love we can release our fears and ask our questions and receive consolation. We can free our busy minds to notice God’s pervading love and to allow that love to stretch our spirits to growth”

When I read your words and the words of others I feel God’s presence there with you, Mary Boaz
